No back together after lovers split                          27/6/08

A Lewis football team sparked a teenage lovers’ tiff and kicked off the end of a broken relationship Stornoway Sheriff Court heard today (Fri).

The final result saw Jack Walker, 17, being sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid community service for assaulting his girlfriend.

Walker of 13 Broadbay View, Back, earlier pleaded guilty to assaulting his ex-partner  on June 5th on two separate occasions at Broadbay View, Back.

The court was told the relationship had existed for a couple of months and they had been living together at his home address.

An argument exploded about each other’s fashion choices as they headed to the bus stop to go out.

She objected to him wearing a jacket emblazoned with the emblem of the local football club.

In turn he ridiculed her pink jacket and the row escalated.

They returned home separately but she found the door locked.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith said that Mr Walker grabbed his girlfriend’s clothing and pinned her to wall. He continued behaving aggressively and was shouting at her. A neighbour called the police and they found her in an apparent emotional state.

Walker’s solicitor said it was a “stupid immature argument.”

“He was going to wear a jacket with a local football’s club logo and she didn’t like that.”

He responded by criticising her pink jacket. Soon afterwards she texted him saying the relationship was finished and she was catching the ferry to the mainland.

He replied with a text saying goodbye.

He told the court she returned to the house and started banging on door, got hold a golf club and there was a face to face confrontation.

The court heard she is now living in Dingwall with her parents and the relationship is dead afar as Mr Walker is concerned.

However, though a bail condition banned any contact with her, she phones him about 30 times a day

Sheriff W J Taylor sentenced Walker to 100 hours of unpaid community work.
