Woman escapes driving ban 27/6/08
A Point woman saved her job after she escaped a driving ban from Stornoway Sheriff Court.
Angusina Macmillan pleaded guilty to being drunk in charge of a vehicle when she appeared from custody at Stonoway Sheriff Court on Friday.
A tip-off led police to find the 48-year-old in the driving seat of a Ford Focus stopped at Knock School, Point.
The court was told the car was stationary and the engine switched off. She was being assisted by three men who were changing a flat tyre .
Macmillan of 4b Shulishader was three times the legal limit.
Lawyer Angus Macdonald said she had “brought a huge degree of shame on herself and family over this charge.”
He said there had been personal tragic events in her life with the pre-mature deaths of two very close family members in recent years and he suspected these events were a factor in her excess drinking.
He said she would lose her job as a care assistant if she did not hold onto her licence.
Sheriff W J Taylor QC said this was “salutary wake-up call” and advised her to obtain help
He endorsed her licence with ten penalty points and imposed a £ 600 fine.
