Opposition to Shucksmith Report on crofting 30/6/08
Crofting activist Netta MacKenzie has launched a petition against the reforms advocated in the Shucksmith Report
The petition on the Scottish Parliament’s website calls for the rejection of the main proposals of the report.
Mrs Mackenzie is opposed to abolishing the Crofters Commission saying that 79% of respondents were in favour of keeping the body.
She says that imposing legal burdens on crofts which acts as an obstacle against decrofting will prevent crofters obtaining high street mortgages as it "makes it virtually impossible to borrow against the croft house and use it as security."
