Stornoway harbour  marina plans                        1/7/08

At a recent meeting, the Board of Stornoway Port Authority considered the proposals put forward by Land Use Consultants to develop the Inner Harbour area by installing a new marina and supporting welfare facilities shore-side.
Land Use Consultants had carried out a Feasibility Study in 2007, funded jointly by the Port Authority, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Highlands and Islands Enterprise, to establish the demand for a marina development, in light of the expansion within the pleasure vessel market.
The Port Authority Board approved the outline plans to install new pontoons, which could provide up to 40 additional berths, capable of accommodating craft of up to 15 metres in length.
Having considered the options for a Facilities Building in the Inner Harbour area to house showers, toilets and laundry services, the Board agreed that a more accurate costing for each of the two options should be sought, before deciding on what best served the needs of the yachting fraternity, the Port Authority and the local community.
The Inner Harbour Development Project will now move towards more detailed design once Design Consultants have been appointed.
