A number of people were arrested and kept in the cells at Stornoway police station at the weekend.

It includes a youth who is being charged with allegedly carrying a knife and of alleged vandalism. His arrest followed a disturbance in the Stornoway area in the early hours of this morning. The 22-year-old man is due to appear in court later on Monday.

A 19-year-old male was charged with alleged drink-driving  after he was stopped by police officers in Newmarket on the outskirts of Stornoway early this morning. He is in custody and will be taken to court tomorrow (Monday).

An alleged assault in North Beach Street, Stornoway, early today will result in a court appearance for a 22-year-old man.

A 39-year-old woman was fined £ 40 for a breach of the peace committed at the taxi rank on North Beach Street, Stornoway. She was arrested for shouting and swearing at police officers early on Friday morning and was arrested. She opted for the fixed penalty fine.

Again on North Beach Street on Friday, a man was charged with an alleged breach of the peace. He is accused of shouting and swearing at police. A  report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

On Saturday evening a man was taken into custody following an incident at a flat in the Cearns' area of Stornoway. The 22-year-old is accused of assault as well as vandalism.
