Man struggled with seven police officers 21/7/08
An Inverness resident who took on seven police officers in a melee on Lewis at the weekend has been banished to the mainland.
Norman Murray even tackled the island's top police boss in the stramash in Stornoway town centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was originally told to leave the Hebrides immediately when he appeared in Stornoway Sheriff Court today (Mon).
The ferry was departing within two hours but he later request an extension to leave today (tues) so he could collect medication.
Murray of Flat C23, Lochalsh Road, Inverness, admitted tackling the group of police officers.
The 22-year-old pleaded guilty to resisting and struggling with chief inspector Philip Macrae plus a police superintendent as well as five constables on North Beach Street in Stornoway.
Murray also admitted assaulting and injuring a man by repeatedly punching him in the face and head.
Sheriff Gordon Fleetwood ordered Murray out of the Hebrides and deferred sentence to next month for background reports.
