Drunk youth drove after row with girlfriend          22/7/08

William Gallagher of 47 Upper Coll, Lewis was fined £600 and lost his licence for 15 months after he was sentenced for drink driving at Stornoway Sheriff Court today.

The 19-year-old was caught on the Newmarket Road around 1.45 am on Sunday morning.

He was kept in custody until his first court appearance on Monday when he pleaded guilty to driving while two and a half times the limit.

His case was recalled today to allow him to produce his driving documents.

The court was told that Gallagher was spotted driving erratically by officers in a marked police car.

The customer service assistant had been at the Hebridean Celtic Festival and had no intention of driving home. He had taken his car to town and planned to collect it the following day.

However, an argument development between himself and his girlfriend. He was getting a lift in her car and she was behind the wheel.

They continued to argue and she stopped the vehicle. His own car was nearby and, despite his condition, he drove off in it trying to get home.
